Welcome to our new DYF
By Ashleigh [Wed Jan 6th, 2010]
We are very excited to announce that Wade Aukett will be joining the team as our new DYF.
Wade was born and raised in the beautiful city of Napier where he grew up in a faithful Christian family. As a teenager he was a dayboy at Lindisfarne College in Hastings, and was involved with anything to do with music. After several years of tertiary study and casual work in Wellington he went on an OE to India, where he worked in an orphanage, and Australia, where he surfed and sat on the beach all day. Serendipitously it was in the great city of Auckland, after a meeting at the Christian Resource Centre, that he first had a real and life changing encounter with Jesus Christ and knew that his life would never be the same again.
It wasn’t until 2001 that Wade first encountered the Anglican Church. It was after returning to Napier, and his logic for finding a faith community was to simply go to the biggest church in town which, of course, was the Anglican Cathedral! What really sparked his enthusiasm for the ‘Anglican way’ however, was the genuine and practical approach to justice and service that he perceived in the churches life and ministry.
Wade’s own ministry began in Napier as a parish youth leader and developed when he became Administrator for Hawke’s Bay Anglican Youth Ministries. In 2004 he was invited to be Youth Network Coordinator for the Diocese of Waikato. With this also came the opportunity to test his vocation with the Franciscan Brothers, who had recently moved to Hamilton. After several years of leading the development of youth ministry in the Diocese and living with the Brothers, he moved to Australia where his formation as a Franciscan could continue full-time.
For Wade the Franciscan charism is a call to evangelism, contemplation, justice and service - a life ‘alongside’ and on the margins. It is a charism he seeks to bring to his life and ministry.
Things you may or may not know about Wade: · Plays the piano (and organ, if pressed) · Attempts to be a vegetarian · Loves classic rock as well as music from the romantic period · Doesn’t like shaving · Has worn Chuck Taylor shoes since the age of 7 · Takes his coffee black · Is committed to the Three Tikanga relationship of the Church · Has never lived in Auckland, but is looking forward to the experience! Wade takes up the role of Diocesan Youth Facilitator on the 18th of January.
